It only seems fitting that our first wine tasting of the year would be at Party Town. With tastings every Saturday, we try to make as many as we can. It started out all about the wine, but now it’s about meeting up with friends, relaxing, and socializing. Tastings are from 3 to 5 PM although we’ve been known to continue the party at a local restaurant or someone’s home.
JP, Party Town’s Wine Geek, serves as our host. If you have a question about a wine or need some assistance with selecting a wine, he is the one to ask. Each week he carefully selects at least four wines for us to experience. His philosophy is that the right wine is the one you like. He encourages us to taste them all. Sometimes there is a dessert wine or a wine that someone has brought in to share from their travels. Six pours are allowed so you can go back and revisit a wine you’re already tried.
Selections at this tasting included the following:
- Lunatic White from Napa Valley, California – a white blend of Pinot Blanc 33%, Gewurztraminer 33%, Muscat Canelli 33%
- Evolution Lucky No. 9 from Dundee, Oregon – a white blend of nine grapes, including Chardonnay and Pinot Gris
- 2013 Domaine Rochette Beaujolais Villages Nouveau from Beaujolais region of France – a red wine
- CA Red from California – a red blend of Tempranillo, Barbera, Petit Sirah, Syrah and Grenache
The whites were a pleasant surprise. I am usually a red wine drinker and I try to resist the whites so I can save up my extra tastes. I was glad I listened to JP this day as I found the whites to be quite pleasant. Both reds were delicious. My favorite of the day was #3 and I chose to revisit that one twice.
Party Town has quite the selection of spirits, wine, and beer, including a Growler Station with 18 beers on tap available for sampling. There is an entire aisle devoted to wine and beer making.
For those with an affinity for local wines, Party Town’s local wine section is one of the largest I’ve ever seen.
Grab your wine glass and join in the fun! Party Town is the place to meet up with old friends and make new ones. We hope to see you next Saturday!
