It was a beautiful Saturday evening and the weather was perfect.  Wine, music, and fun called to us from The Little Kentucky River Winery.  It’s a great place with musical entertainment most Saturday evenings.  Sometimes there is a dinner option, but picnic baskets are always welcome.

One of our favorite summer spots, we enjoyed a tasting and settled in with a bottle each of our selections for a relaxing evening.  Departing from my usual Chambourcin, I selected their 1812 which is a Cabernet Franc and Bushmaster selected their Dance in the Rain which is a Seyval.

Soon Elvis was “in the building” and we were treated to some good old fashioned entertainment.  Todd Bodenheimer does a fantastic job.  No lip synching with this one, he does all his own vocals and sounds remarkably like The King.  We even got to dance a little bit in the pavilion.

Through conversation with owners, David and Teresa Weyler, we learned that they were not planning to make Chambourcin this season.  The next thing they told us was music to our ears — their Chambourcin grapes would be available for sale!  We had been looking for a source for Chambourcin grapes or juice since last summer.  We are SO excited that we will be able to try our hand at some Chambourcin wine of our own.  We couldn’t help but to make a beeline out to the vines to photograph “our” baby grapes!

Hours later we finished out the evening with a bottle of my old standby, Smokehouse Red, their version of Chambourcin.  Another wonderful evening at one of our favorite places!
