Day 2 of our exploration of the Leelanau Peninsula began with a stop at the M22 wine bar. M22 was a combination active wear/home accessories/wine bar. We did not know what to expect.  We were pleasantly surprised.

Affiliated with Black Star Farms, they offered their own brand of wines and the list ran the gamut.

We sampled:

  • Pino Noir Rose
  • M22 White – a blend of Pinto Grigio, Chardonnay, and Riesling
  • Pinot Noir
  • Vintners Red – a blend of Cabernet Franc and Merlot
  • M22 Red – a blend of the Vintners Red and Pinot Noir
  • Riesling
  • Late Harvest Riesling
  • Rose
  • Overlook Red a blend of Dornfelder, Foch, Regent, and Pinot Noir
  • Cherry

Both Aary and I agreed that the Pinot Noir Rose and the Vintners Red with its heavy oak influence were our favorites.  Aary also liked the Cherry. The tart cherries with the hint of cinnamon gave it a distinct flavor that made it stand out from the other cherry wines we had tried and reminded us of fall.

To be honest, M22 had not been on our radar and we almost skipped over it. We were certainly glad that weather related circumstances led us there. Their wines were all so enjoyable.  We look forward to visiting Black Star Farms in the future.
