Time and circumstances allowed for us to make a stop at the Holtkamp Winery Tasting Room on Saturday.

While we much prefer actual winery visits, we welcomed the opportunity to sample from their full line of wines.  So we could cover almost all of them, we actually split three tastings, skipping only their Riesling and Concord.

We sampled the following:

  • 2013 Robert Reserve – red blend of Syrah, Petite Sirah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petite Verdot
  • 2013 Petite Sirah
  • 2013 Syrah
  • 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon
  • 2015 Avery Red – a blend of Noiret and Marquette
  • 2014 Avery White a white blend possibly containing Seyval
  • 2014 Vidal Blanc
  • 2014 Traminette
  • 2013 Sweet Marie –  a blend of Concord, Strawberry, and Watermelon
  • Blackberry
  • Cranberry Apple
  • Watermelon
  • Plum
  • Peach
  • Golden Harvest – Niagara
  • Late Harvest – Viognier

The Robert Reserve was my clear favorite, just as it had been at The Swiss Wine Festival.  I also really liked their Plum, Golden Harvest, and Late Harvest which were all surprises as I usually prefer the drying wines.  Bushmaster’s favorites were Golden Harvest and Late Harvest.

We are still looking forward to visiting their winery with our Classy Canines.  There’s just nothing like a tasting experience with the actual wine maker.  And the dogs like road trips too!
