It was an unseasonably warm Saturday in January so it was nice opportunity for an outing. We had been wanting to stop by River Valley Winery since November when we moved Capri’s Mom into an assisted living facility not terribly far from there.

Even though it is off season for them, co-owner Vicky, was gracious enough to accommodate us. The llamas were put away in the barn, so there were no llama kisses this visit.  It will be spring before we know it, so we’ll just have to go back!

Capri’s Mom joined us on our excursion which made for a nice outing for her. After hearing that she really only likes the sweet stuff, Vicky fixed her up with some tastes of Cayuga White and Loretto which she very much enjoyed.

We tasted their full line of offerings which included:

  • Vidal Blanc
  • Cabernet Sauvignon
  • Merlot
  • Shiraz
  • Cayuga White
  • Loretto

You really can’t go wrong with any of their wines.  All offer unique characteristics.  We were surprised how well we liked the Shiraz.  Capri’s favorite was the Merlot with its woody notes.  Bushmaster was torn between the Cayuga White and the Loretto with its hint of Muscat.

A visit to River Valley Winery is always a treat.  With its close proximity to our travel routes, we look forward to stopping in more frequently this season.
